Every email marketer's worst nightmare is the spam folder. To avoid it you need to learn how to write better emails. Part of that learning is by ensuring you don’t use certain words.

Spam folders are good in general because they keep junk emails from getting into our inboxes. The problem is that spam filters don't always catch everything. Some emails that are perfectly fine end up in the spam folder for no clear reason.

When this happens, it can be very frustrating, and as email marketers, it's our job to make sure that none of the content in our email campaigns could be mistaken for spam. Choosing the right words is very important here.

Here’s a list of spam-triggering words that you want to avoid:

As you can see, some of these words may seem harmless, but it is very important to ensure that you don’t rely on spammy words that the likes of Gmail will pick up on as they’ll fire you straight into the spam box of doom and you’ll never get out.

The key here is to get creative with the wording you use in the subject lines and body of text in the email.

A little hack would be to use designs in your emails as the words don’t get picked up as text.

Have you found any other words that have put you on the spam folder?

I’d love to know.
